Gene,
Thanks again for a lyrical description of what we do every day. Notice the updating on this site is slowing down. Folks must be too busy doing those chores!

Thanks, Gene. Love that picture of the sheep looking thru the fence. Just finished reading (for the 2nd time) your book Last of the Husbandmen. Your writing is a motivation and always provides some useful information. Think I know someone who will look after my chickens this year when I'm gone in return for some eggs and meat. I actually look forward to the chores and watching them. The gardening/farming life is a great one.

Thank you for sharing your life experience. I felt like I was right there with you! My dream is to live in an old farmhouse surrounded with fruit trees, vegetable garden and also a wildflower and herb garden. I believe that a person becomes very appreciative of their food when they have invested time and themselves in the process. It is harder to be grateful for prepackaged food....very impersonal.

People shouldn't underestimate how growing plants for food also ties you to a home life. Tender vegetables must be harvested every few days, the fruit, grains and beans must be picked at perfect ripeness or adequate dryness. And the weeds wont pause for a minute (here in the subtropics at least). The consequences of neglect and being away at critical times aren't so heart breaking, but you still pay a hefty price.
