Thanks to 2,000 Comments, Tyson Donation Goal is Reached! In less than a week, 2,000 people visited the Tyson Hunger Relief website and made comments. Each of your comments added 100 pounds of high-protein food to Tyson trucks heading for Bay Area food banks.

"We've hit our goal, and much of the 200,000 pounds of food have already arrived. Thanks to everyone who helped us!" - SF Food Bank

A follow-up from the SF Food Bank...

"After seeing some of the hunger challenge blogs Tyson Foods, has offered to send up to 200,000 pounds of high-quality, protein-rich foods (chicken, meatballs, lunchmeat, etc.) to the six Bay Area food banks. That's six tractor-trailerloads of the most hard-to-come-by foods desperately needed by food banks!

They will donate 100 pounds of food for every comment posted on a special web page. (NOTE: the format asks for an email address to prevent spam, but Tyson guarantees they will not harvest emails or use them for any other purpose whatsoever.)

For those interested here's how you can help get the food bank 100 pounds of food:

1) Go to http://tinyurl.com/4l3evx .

2) Read the information and post a comment. (NOTE: the format asks for an email address to prevent spam, but Tyson guarantees they will not harvest emails or use them for any other purpose whatsoever.)

3) Tyson adds another 100 pounds of high-quality, protein-rich foods (chicken, meatballs, lunchmeat, etc.) to trucks heading for 6 Bay Area food banks!"

This is a great post. I work at the San Francisco Food Bank and I'm so glad that you focused on some of the particular challenges low-income parents face. Speaking to some of our grocery distribution participants, I've often heard things along the lines of your comment about the bananas.

Like Gayle, I'm doing the Hunger Challenge.
It's a great education experience for your kids. My kids started volunteering at the Alameda food bank when they were about 10 (I think) It has made a lasting impact on them.

Lisa, I'm taking the Hunger Challenge by myself - and I really admire you for involving your whole family, particularly with young kids. I'm impressed that they understand some of the issues you explained, too. One thing I think that's nice about the San Francisco Food Bank volunteer program is that one day a week, kids as young as four can volunteer with their families, doing age-appropriate tasks. Helping others makes the kids feel great!
