Kerri, If you want your head to explode even more, read some of Jean Henri Fabre's books about insects that he observed in his backyard. Thanks for your great comment. Gene Logsdon

Gene, I think my head just exploded. Thanks!

I'm not even going to try to wrap my head around the enormity of the interconnections going on, even in my yard. I've got three different kinds of bees, zillions of spiders and more kinds of daddy longlegs than I've ever seen before. They all do things but what that is escapes me. And while the root maggots and leaf rollers have been deterred this year by determined hunt-and-squish, there's a purpose for them, too. And why don't I see many birds? And what about the profusion of white clover that suddenly covered the yard towards the end of July? What does that mean?

Dang. I've gone and exploded my own head. Guess I'll just keep watching and seeing how what I do fits in with what all the rest of the life around me does. I suspect it will take me longer to fit in but I'm willing to be patient.
